Our opinion on your chimney repair needs

During his visit, our chimney inspector will take photos of your chimney from the roofline up, and your fireplace focusing on areas of disrepair. He'll climb on your roof (if it is safe) to capture any difficult angles. An estimate will be prepared, and you'll learn your options and have the opportunity to ask any questions, empowering you to make an informed decision.

SWEEP + LEVEL 1 INSPECTION

Includes sweep + vIsual inspection

$129, approximately 1hr

A Level 1 inspection is included as part of a chimney sweep. If your chimney and fireplace are working as expected and you are not planning any changes to the fuel source (wood-burning to gas, for example) or installation of a liner, a Level 1 inspection is appropriate.

Some of the activities the inspector will carry out during this level of inspection include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • perform a visual inspection of the fireplace and hearth, noting any accessories in poor condition or damaged, and ensuring that firebrick was used

  • confirm that damper is in working order and check for rust or warping in any metal components

  • check firebox for any loose or missing mortar, noting any cracked or damaged firebrick

  • observe general condition of smoke chamber and look for extreme offsets or holes, check that liner is well-supported

  • observe the condition of the chimney crown, flashing, and cap

Chimney Cleaning

SWEEP + LEVEL 2 INSPECTION

Includes sweep + camera inspection

$149, approximately 1hr

A Level 2 inspection will include all elements of a Level 1 inspection and more. Some of the additional activities the inspector will carry out include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • examine the "accessible" portions of the fireplace, chimney, and associated appliances, possibly with the use of tools or a ladder

  • use a camera scanner to inspect the interior of the chimney, looking for any cracks or missing mortar

  • closely inspect the smoke chamber for any irregularities and to verify the walls are parged smooth

  • check for appropriate expansion joints in between the metal side walls of fireplace units and adjacent masonry

  • inspect for rust or damage in any metal components

  • check for indications of water damage on the roof

  • inspect all elements of the chimney structure above the roofline, including the crown, flashing, and cap

On conclusion of the inspection, an official report will be sent to you via e-mail that includes photos, a summary of findings, any code violations observed, and, if applicable, an estimate for repair.
